In riding, the ability to leave failures behind is just as important as the ability to learn from them.
Mistakes should teach us something, but over-analysing and dwelling on them can take away confidence and belief in yourself. Think through your worst sessions, then leave them behind and don’t let them define you.
On course: here and now
For an unsure rider, a bad take-off, a misjudged distance or a rail down can affect the rest of the course, and a mistake in one dressage movement can ruin the whole test.
So react to mistakes here and now, then let them go. There will be time to analyse after your round. During the round, stay focused on what’s ahead of you.
